Britain’s cyclists deliver more success as Chris Froome wins the Tour de France following on from the success of Sir Bradley Wiggins’ victory last year.
During the gruelling 3 week race, Froome was always dominant to underpin his tag of favourite from the beginning and this victory marks yet another success for Team Sky. The issue of performance enhancing drugs was brought up but there has been no evidence of any wrongdoing by Froome and his team and this kind of accusation is bound to be thrown at any rider who dominates an event due to the terrible track record in this sport. It’s about time the efforts of Froome and Wiggins make people take note that you can reach the pinnacle of this sport by staying clean.
It’s also worth noting that Britain’s Mark Cavendish also excelled in this year’s race by taking his total of stage wins on the Tour to a remarkable 25.
As a nation we wait the 99 years for a winner of this event and then we get 2 in a row and also the best sprinter. Let’s hope this is a sign of many more successes.
