York City FC are back in the football league after an 8 year absence thanks to a sensational Blue Square Bet Premier League play-off victory at Wembley against Luton Town on Saturday. This comes only a week after they were also victorious in the final of the FA Trophy against Newport County meaning they were able to show off 2 football trophies.
On Monday night The Minstermen took part in an open-top bus parade through York city centre which started at their ground – Bootham Crescent – and worked it’s way through York until they finally reached the Mansion House.
Literally thousands of people were there to welcome the team, we know because we were there, and what an atmosphere.
As if the joy wasn’t enough, the club are also celebrating the fact that they have been given approval for a new 6,000-seater stadium at Monks Cross.
Being trophy people we are glad to see that the FA Trophy and the play-off trophy are getting some exposure, often playing second fiddle to their illustrious cousins the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies. What’s even more exciting is these 2 trophies are now going to reside in our local area for the next year.
The Trophy and Print Shop would like to offer congratulations to Gary Mills and his team and all the staff at York City. We are very much looking forward to the new season and wish the club all the best for what’s promising to be an exciting future back where they belong.
